Sirus Digital Newsletter – Edition 116

I ain't heard no bell!
Until you hear a bell or a whistle, you are still playing and you need to act like it! In today's society, there are a lot of people just "mailing it in". While things are tougher than ever in some ways, it is frankly easier than ever to separate yourself from the pack by simply showing up and doing the work!

Be On The Lookout For Some Changes

Editor’s Note: This newsletter was originally published on Monday, December 5th, 2022.

Like many others, I usually take some time for rest and reflection during December. It is a good exercise to review what you are doing to identify those things working well as well as those that might need to change.

As much as we continue to see change, standing pat does not sense. Whether it is financially, culturally, or otherwise, change continues to be the only certainty that we experience.

I wrote a post sharing details about how I plan and respond to change. I would love to hear what you think and how it could help you.

From my standpoint, I plan to spend some of my time over the next month working on this newsletter and producing some new website content. Be on the lookout for how it will evolve and, as always, I welcome feedback specifically around areas where it can provide more value to you.

Don’t hesitate to connect and share any ideas that you would like to see!

Unrelated Sports Mention

  • UGA finished off the 2022 regular season undefeated winning the SEC Championship! That win earned them their 2nd consecutive berth in the College Football Playoff; this time as the #1 seed. As many on this team learned last year in that run to a Championship, it only gets tougher as you progress. The games are more meaningful and every play becomes even more important. As for now, the sights are solely set on the Ohio State Buckeyes on December 31st. Keep the focus on #Now and let the outcome manifest as it goes. #GoDawgs
  • The Falcons had another disappointing result against the Pittsburgh Steelers. On a positive note, they have been in more one-score games than any team in the NFL; negatively, they are simply not winning enough of them! That said, you play until the end and this team seems to believe that. If nothing else, you credit them for their work and effort (even if the outcomes aren’t what we – or they – might want).
I ain't heard no bell!

Many of us remember THAT scene from Rocky V. Rocky stands up bloodied and yells “Yo Tommy! I ain’t heard no bell! One more round!”

I thought of that scene last night watching the SEC Championship game between Georgia & LSU.

It was an early moment in the game as LSU lined up for a mid-range Field Goal. For whatever reason, UGA was able to block the kick & the ball fell to the turf of Mercedes-Benz stadium in the field of play.

As many players from both teams were jogging off the field in preparation for another play, Georgia Safety Chris Smith approached the ball and looked around.

Note: For those unaware (many of which were players in that game), the ball in a Field Goal attempt that lands in the field of play is a Live Ball! (Ask Alabama & Auburn’s recent Interim Coach, Cadillac Williams of #KickSix fame.)

Smith waited for a moment (in what should have been a clue to everyone else), picked up the ball, and bolted to the End Zone for UGA’s first score of the night.

It is true in sports as much as it is true in our day-to-day lives.

As you reflect and review during this time of year, what might you do differently as we prepare for 2023?

For those checking out the book reviews, I reviewed Twelve And A Half (Amazon affiliate link) by Gary Vaynerchuk. You can check out my notes at this link.

Keep a lookout as I have finished reading the following books and will be posting my notes for those very soon!

  • Developing an SEO Strategy
    • If you haven’t built an SEO Strategy for your business or practice, this is one of your first steps to starting a focus on SEO – and increasing organic traffic. Laying out a strategy and measuring your results as you execute provides the needed feedback on your results. Ultimately, it is those results that justify the resources spent!
  • Using Featured Snippets
    • Featured Snippets are one way to increase authority and – we would hope – traffic. If there are answers that you can provide to potential audiences [and customers] in the form of short, informative segments,
    • Featured Snippets might be a tool for you. Just be sure to understand what they can and can’t do!
  • CRM Options – Low-cost or Free
    • Most of us need tools to manage customers. A CRM tool is a big investment – both financially as well as time. If some of the free or low-cost options meet your current needs, they are worthy of consideration until such time that you NEED another option!
