Milestones, Markers, And Metrics
Editor’s Note: This newsletter was originally published on Monday, June 20th, 2022.
Had you told me nearly 2 years ago that this newsletter would be marking its 100th Edition and being sent to over 400 subscribers, I would not have believed you.
What started as a vehicle to reach out to friends and associates while we were in the midst of a global pandemic has evolved into a consistent connection point where I get to share with each of you on a recurring basis.
I truly appreciate the time that you have spent checking it out. I really hope that you have gotten something out of it. I am thankful that you have afforded me the opportunity to write and share.
Looking back at earlier editions, I get to see how far I have come.
More than anything, you offered me a reason to keep reaching out and sharing. You being there was justification for me being here.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you!
I do hope that you enjoy it and if so, I would love for you to share it with others who might get some bits of value too.
Until next time, keep moving.

This week, it was a conversation about “fairness”.
I will often be the first to say that “Life isn’t Fair”. However, on more than one occasion, I noted that this reality is not a cause or justification for treating others unfairly.
The topic was the recent decision to introduce Female Youth into what we know as “Boy Scouts” (now relabelled ‘Scouts BSA’).
I was a supporter of the change even before it was announced for a couple of reasons.
- Culturally, most Americans can identify the highest rank in Scouts BSA (formerly Boy Scouts). The rank is Eagle. On the other hand, very few people know the highest rank in Girl Scouts. (Editor’s Note: It is the Gold Award.)
- Even today, there are hiring and interview decisions made by companies who will grant interviews to someone who lists “Eagle Scout” on their resume. Even if the candidate might be otherwise unqualified, they will often get an interview and consideration where they would not otherwise.
If for only these two reasons, it is patently unfair to exclude Female Youth who wish to participate in Scouts BSA programs!
While yes, Girl Scouts has a program designed for Female Youth, no rational and fair-minded person can claim that they are equivalent!
For girls and their families who wish to participate in the Girl Scouts program, I fully support their choice. However, for girls and their families who desire a different program in the form of Scouts BSA, I equally support their desire.
Two of our Adult Leaders at Summer Camp were female. In time, our charter organization may expand our charter and program to include a female troop. (Note: We already include Female Youth as a part of our Venture and Ship programs today.)
Scouts BSA is about developing character and leadership skills among our Youth. Those opportunities and experiences are open to Youth (and Adults) be they male or female. #WelcomeAboard

I have a second post on the topic coming this week. There’s probably tons more to say about this topic, what would *you* like to learn about?

- Internet Explorer is “DEAD” (While reports of its complete demise might be a bit premature, the reality is that IE – Microsoft’s trademark browser technology for decades – is getting pushed aside. With any luck, it will become more of a memory than reality really quickly. For website developers who have struggled with the myriad of “unique” features and complexities, the move to Web3 & Chromium-based browsers is a long-awaited change!)
- From “Great Resignation” to forced resignation (A lot of attention has been paid to the widespread disruptions within companies that have occurred in the past couple of years. Millions of workers have changed jobs or left the workforce entirely. The resulting volatility in salaries & hiring has made it extremely challenging for small businesses to large organizations. In that wake, we are now seeing many companies, struggling financially due to market forces, releasing and laying off other employees. For employees and employers looking for stability, these have been and are continuing to be challenging times. While off-shoring was an answer in the past, many overseas areas are experiencing similar to associated challenges with their workforce as well! This has been and continues to be a global issue!)
