Duh Is Me! LOL
Editor’s Note: This newsletter was originally published on Monday, July 18th, 2022.
Life has a way of reminding you that “you’ve not quite got this”!
Last week’s newsletter contained some extremely insightful thoughts on our current economic conditions. I tried to take some time to tie a number of topics into a frame of reference that is meaningful to us all.
I battled a number of “technical” issues creating the newsletter as my current provider (Mailchimp) was causing me some issues.
All told, it was a solid piece of work.
…that I forgot to include a Subject Line & Description! Doh!
If you were the lucky recipient of last week’s gem, apologies. I’ll try not to make THAT mistake again, but I’m sure I’ll make another equally bone-headed one before you know it.
I believe it was Albert Einstein that said: “Someone who has never made mistakes has never tried anything.” If not, it should’ve been because that just sounds like it would sound best with a German accent!
Interestingly, the metrics showed that last week’s email with the forgotten subject line & description earned 50 opens! If you were one of those, thanks and I hope you enjoyed the giggle.
Either way, if you didn’t get a chance to read it, you can check it out in the archive at this link. (Note: All of the previous editions are available there if you’d like to take a trip down memory lane.)
I hope you have a great week & let me know if there’s anything that you’d like to see added, removed, or changed about the newsletter.

This is another line of thought related to the reality that I see more and more each day.
As humans, we tend to do those things that we want to do. We also find reasons not to do the things that we don’t want to do.
This became crystal clear during the Covid-19 pandemic whereby people, regardless of their leanings, opinions, beliefs, or politics, did those things that they wanted to do (fighting vehemently against opposition trying to stop them), but quickly justified why they wouldn’t do those things that they didn’t want to do anyway.
More than anything else, Covid-19 became an easy excuse why you wouldn’t or they shouldn’t!
However, it was never enough to stop me if I wanted to or justifiable as why you could tell me I couldn’t!
The quote above is merely an extension.
Usually, after “No”, everyone asks “Why”. The negotiating and justifying that follows sometimes leads to compromise (or acceptance).
Just beware – Everything after “No” isn’t usually that they are convinced; they are just saying anything to get you to leave them alone. The answer is more “Fine” than “Yes” so if it doesn’t happen right then, it is still unlikely to happen.
When you get that first campaign, create an excellent impression. Whether paid or not, create content that will impress the brand. Therefore your first sample will help influence other brands in hiring you in the future.https://t.co/LaRYB8dGIp

- WordPress Skills to Learn
- When I come across posts or learning materials to help grow our WP skills, I share those with you. Because WP is one of the most-used platforms on which websites (especially authority-based sites) are built. It is a good habit to keep abreast – even if you hire out the work.
- Content Consolidation & SEO
- If you are trying to implement a content-based strategy to attract attention, reviewing and auditing your content (for its consolidation) is a topic to consider. Because Google & other search engines focus on ranking the best information on particular topics, having a scattershot & wide approach to topics and keywords will often serve to diminish your rankings (instead of improving them). Consolidating multiple pages targeting a keyword to make it more authoritative will often help to boost your value & rankings.

- Beware the BUGS!!
- There has been a lot of noise about bugs in plugins and even other “bigger” cloud-based software recently. These three examples are only the tip of the iceberg but suggest that diligence on our part is an ongoing responsibility.
I just released a 30-minute video on fuzzy matching and its applications for SEO.
