Sirus Digital Newsletter – Edition 14

The best place to hide a dead body is on Page 2 of Google Search Results!
This might not be 100% accurate, but I think a lot of companies and business owners feel this way as they are trying to improve the Search Engine results. There seems to be more information, more advice, and a lot more trainings/programs/services offering to "boost" your website and improve your rankings. For many, they spend quite a bit of money and often see minimal (or declining) results.

Don't Be The Dead Body!

This might not be 100% accurate, but I think a lot of companies and business owners feel this way as they are trying to improve the Search Engine results.

There seems to be more information, more advice, and a lot more trainings/programs/services offering to “boost” your website and improve your rankings. For many, they spend quite a bit of money and often see minimal (or declining) results.

Couple this with the seemingly never-ending battles waged to “beat the algorithms”, it is easy to understand why Search Engine Optimization gets treated as more sorcery than science.

Don’t be fooled!

Our problems stem from the fact that we are attempting to “beat the algorithms”!

At their very core, search engines (Google, Bing, etc) seek to deliver the best answer that satisfies a user’s question.

It is truly that simple! If your content best answers a user’s query and is delivered quickly satisfying the user, you will rank & you will get traffic. If your content does not (or your website performs poorly), you will not.

Take a look at your website:

  • Do you know who your audience is?
  • Do you know what questions they are asking?
  • Is your website’s content answering the questions asked by that audience?
  • Are those answers delivered quickly without errors and in a manner that provides a good user experience?

If you can honestly answer ‘Yes’ to these questions, you are well on your way to getting the traffic and engagement that you seek. If you have areas to improve in any of them, target your efforts toward those strategic goals instead of trying to next “hack” trying to game the system.

The better that the search engine algorithms get; the easier it is to rank for those who are seeking to quickly & effectively provide the best answers to the questions their audience is asking.

What is something that you are working on & how might we help?

Here are a few other things that I have caught my eye this week! I included a quick synopsis, but I would love to hear your thoughts on them as well!

SEO Tips for Beginners
If you are looking for SEO tips, the folks at ReliableSoft provided this good beginner article explaining the topic. As mentioned earlier, the best way to improve your SERP rankings is to provide great content quickly that satisfies user queries.

Growing on YouTube
Neil Patel always provides great advice on building subscribers and engagement on social media platforms (in addition to the valuable training he provides on SEO). I’d recommend subscribing to his YouTube channel as he is always bringing value to those of us improving our games.

LinkedIn Stories
For those who have been using Facebook and Instagram Stories, LinkedIn has now added the feature as well. They function in a similar fashion and offer some keen opportunity for messaging to your audience.

We include links like this in each week’s newsletter. If you find one, mention it in the comments below or send it to me via email.
