Voting (and counting votes...)

Most of us have been caught up in the whirlwind that was Election day on Tuesday, November 3rd. As of this writing, former Vice President Joe Biden has been declared the President-elect after currently being ahead in enough states to get him over the 270 Electoral Vote threshold.

First off, congratulations if you supported Biden. It was a tightly-contested and close race, but barring changes from the upcoming recounts and court proceedings, he will be our 46th President of the United States.

Yes – I said OUR 46th President. Whether I supported him or not, he will be my President too if inaugurated. That does not mean I will not oppose his policies where we disagree, but that also does not mean that I will oppose his policies because “they are his”!

Secondly, with due respect to many on “my side”, I have trouble believing that there was a widespread conspiracy at work during this election. Republicans simply made too many gains nationwide (even in the “battleground” states) in national, state, and local races. If this conspiracy against Trump simply worked against Trump (while allowing Republican gains in down-ballot races), the Democrats are some of the most politically-stupid fools on the face of the planet!

Frankly, Democrats would have been politically better off with a Trump win where they enjoyed all of the down-ballot wins.

  • Trump would have lost his supporting chamber in the Senate which would have meant no more Judicial approvals
  • Trump would have been blamed for any continued fallout related to Covid-19

As if stands, Biden is likely to take the Presidency in January with an opposition Senate, weaker House majority, and fewer statehouses in Democratic control for the 2021 Redistricting that is upcoming.

The more likely scenario taking shape is that Donald Trump simply underperformed generic Republican candidates. The biggest question that we should now be asking is was whether or not this has always been the case, I contend that Trump was never the leader from a vote-getting standpoint, but a rider of other people’s momentum! His personality to take credit for any successes made him a larger character than his actual results should have earned.

Regardless, no matter whom you supported, we are still friends as far as I am concerned. I believe that God was sitting on His throne before the election and hasn’t moved since. Of all of us, He isn’t surprised by the outcome and it’s part of His plan.

I have had some conversations about which I am really excited if it comes to fruition. A contact suggested recorded conversations where some of us who might disagree on issues talk about them as opposed to talking at each other (based on our perceptions of what they think)! I thought this was a great idea and sent her my Zoom link that day.

More to come…..

New Video

For those of you who are Real Estate Professionals (or Investors), this video is for you! It shares the four (4) social platforms that you need to be focusing on as well as strategies for the content that you would be putting on them.

If you’d like to check out other videos on my YouTube channel (SwamiDaveSays), you can use this link.

Check out this video from Gary Vaynerchuk

I admit it! I am a complete “mark” for Gary Vaynerchuk! Interestingly, we both share November 14th as our birthday. He hits the differences between (and opportunities in) organic and paid reach on digital platforms.

On talking to your audience

This is a quote from my Killer YouTube Videos blog and videos. It was recorded and published in January 2019 but is just as appropriate today.

Whether you are trying to attract attention organically or using paid ads, the content and messages that you produce must have your target audience in mind. You must be speaking to them with a message with which they can connect.

As the quote suggests if you fail to do that, your audience will simply not hear you. (If they don’t hear you, they will never be a prospect nor a customer!)

Be sure to check out the blog posts and videos in that series if you are interested in producing video content.

For those checking out the book reviews, I finished The Ultimate Sales Machine by Chet Holmes. My post of notes from the book is complete. You can check it out on my blog at this link.

If you would like to read along, I will be starting Content Inc. by Joe Pulizzi soon.

Note: Book links are Amazon affiliate links.

Here are a few other things that I have caught my eye this week! I included a quick synopsis, but I would love to hear your thoughts on them as well!

Comprehensive Client Onboarding Checklist for Agencies

For those who own or manage Digital Marketing agencies, be sure to check out HeyOrca’s Client Onboarding Checklist. I had the privilege of sharing some of our practices and procedures in the article and it has some great insights & strategies that you will want to check out. Frankly, it is just relevant for other professions (Real Estate, Legal, Mortgage Origination, etc).

Reputation Management

If you are not familiar with reputation management, it is an intentional process for requesting and gathering referrals from current and past customers. Its key purpose is to build trust for our business by leveraging our previous performance for others. It is one of the main services that Sirus Digital offers, but it’s also something that you can do for yourself. This article provides background and shares some hints for starting a program like this on your own.

Facebook Algorithm

There is more and more conversation about Facebook’s algorithm. It should come as no surprise as organic reach on the platform continues to be a challenge for content producers. At the core, Facebook wants to keep users on their platform. To do that, they need good content for user feeds. If you produce good content & users engage with it, the algorithm will show your content. If you don’t, it won’t.

Black Friday Deals (starting already….)

For most retailers, “Black Friday” is already underway. The biggest challenge that we, as marketers, are about to face during this season is that we’re just coming out of an election that drove up ad costs – both intent-based (Google, Bing, YouTube, etc) as well as interrupt (Facebook, Instagram, etc). With Black Friday already beginning, don’t look for ad rates on digital platforms to lower anytime soon.

Best Email Marketing Companies

If you are interested in email marketing as an alternative strategy, Neil Patel published this list of companies that you can contact if you need some help. Credit to him for Neil Patel Digital sitting atop the providers list (*smile*). However, if you offer the service and don’t think yours is the best choice, you frankly have some different problems!
