Sirus Digital Newsletter – Edition 4

Giving inconsistent results is almost as bad as giving bad ones.
I'm sharing some of the things that I'm reading right now. Whether that's a book or blog, you're going to see the things that I am looking at now (and in some cases, how I'm implementing it).

Focus on delivering GREAT results!

The above is a quote from Michael E. Gerber’s The E-Myth Revisited.

How often do we find ourselves just “mailing in” our efforts? Throughout 2020, my wife, Stephanie, & I have been amazed at the shocking lack of effort that many employees and their companies put forth. At a time when competition is possibly at its fiercest, it is truly noticeable when an individual or a company simply puts forth the effort.

I’ve never read The E-Myth Revisited (or any of the other related E Myth material. The copyright is 1995 so the material predates many of our now largest companies (Google, Amazon, etc).

To give a frame of reference (especially from a technical standpoint), 1995 saw the release of the Windows 95 Operating System!

Interestingly to me looking through that lens now 25 years later, many of his main points are applicable to what we see today.

I saw the roots of challenges that I have faced in his description of the three perspectives that people take for their business (or jobs): Technical, Managerial, and Entrepreneurial.

  • The biggest obstacle to my own success in Managerial or Entrepreneurial pursuits has been my abilities (and reliance) on my Technical capabilities.
  • Too often, I have jumped into ‘How’ (as a Technician) before identifying the larger questions or ‘What’ (Managerial) or ‘Why’ (Entrepreneurial).

Interestingly enough, projects on which I am now working are prime candidates when I would have defaulted to the Technician activities first. It would seem like this is another case of a teacher appearing (albeit 25 years earlier) at the moment the student is ready.

For those who are interested in getting a copy of Gerber’s The E-Myth Revisited, I have included an Amazon link below.

Note: As many of those whom we serve are professionals in the Legal or Real Estate niches, I have included links for more niche-targeted editions of the book.

If you have read (or decide to read one of the others), be sure to leave a comment specific to the individualized value you found.

I had to jump aboard Google Slides for a presentation last week due to performance issues with my laptop. In advance of its replacement arriving, I’ll be using GSuite quite a bit more!

In an earlier edition, I shared some details for setting up your Google My Business as a part of your Local SEO efforts. Here are updates to the platform that can be helpful to your business as we move forward from our current environment.

I have used WordPress for a few years. If you own or run a WordPress site, my recommendation is to keep it up-to-date from a patching standpoint. It is equally difficult to make software “hack-proof” as it is to make it “idiot-proof”. We seem to keep producing better models of both!

This could serve as a warning to us all. Remington has been experiencing record sales but is still declaring bankruptcy. Some factors are external & others could be their fault. However, we all face challenges in good times and bad that have very real impacts.
