Sirus Digital Newsletter – Edition 63

The Customer you want is like the Customer you have.
Today's business world is challenging to find prospects and customers. It is becoming equally difficult to find and retain good employees. In the same way that the customers you want are like the customers you have, your best employees are some of your best resources (and models) for finding more!

New Versus Different

Editor’s Note: This newsletter was originally published on September 20th, 2021.

It is something we are seeing more and more every day – there really are very few new things that are new. It is difficult to find original things; we just see more new combinations & incarnations of older ideas.

  • Websites and Blogs are just a new medium where ideas are shared.
  • Podcasts are simply another mechanism whereby audio content is published.
  • Platforms like YouTube & TikTok deliver video in a similar fashion that television has done for years.
  • Person-to-Person communication which was previously limited to written and voice forms (Mail and/or Phone) is now enabled across all forms in the form of our mobile devices.

In these cases, sharing ideas and information is not a new thing; we are just doing it in different ways.

One of the biggest differences is the individual focus that today’s technology allows for interactions and engagements with an audience. Whereas most of those platforms were focused on mass markets & targeting the widest generalized audience, today we can use those same mediums to speak in a hyper-focused fashion.

If there is any benefit (and challenge) from the expansion of channels, it is our ability to speak almost directly to individuals & target groups.

What forms and platforms are you using to communicate to your audience? How has it changed? How is it changing?

P.S. In the ongoing shout-out to my favorite football teams, Georgia improved to 3-0 with their first SEC win of the season over South Carolina. The Defense is stifling and their Offense is improving as more players return from injury. It’s looking promising…..for now. 🙂

My Atlanta Falcons dropped to 0-2 on the season with a frustrating loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers & Tom Brady. After closing the gap to 28-25, Tampa rolled with two pick-sixes to pull away for a large win.

As good as Georgia is doing, the Falcons are struggling. Frankly, it’s for the same reasons. Georgia’s Defensive and Offensive lines are better than the teams that they’ve beaten; Atlanta’s simply are not. It frankly is that simple! You win and lose along the lines & that is playing out clearly for all to see!

Until next week….

The Customer you want is like the Customer you have.

Many businesses are struggling today. In addition to the challenges of marketing for prospects and customers, it has become equally difficult even to attract (and keep) employees.

Ogilvy’s quote is appropriate in both instances!

In the same way that the customers you want are like the customers you have, your current, engaged employees should be the models for finding more.

As a leader, be sure to spend time talking to your current customers and employees. Find out why they are here, what they want, and how you are (or aren’t) meeting those needs and wants today.

For those checking out the book reviews, I reviewed E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber. You can check out my notes at this link.

Keep a lookout as I just finished One Million Followers by Brendan Kane and will be posting my notes for that one soon.

How Website Themes affect your SEO
WordPress powers a vast number of websites worldwide. The differentiating factor of those websites comes from the themes and plug-ins that you install and enable. Themes (because they serve and enable such a wide expanse of uses) function differently – especially as it relates to SEO and content-based sites. SearchEngineJournal.com highlights some of the characteristics to look for in your themes if you are interested in optimizing for search-based traffic.

There has been a lot of discussions recently around the topics of crypto, blockchain, and NFTs. While I am by no means an expert, as the husband of a very artistic person, the potential opportunities for opening doors and markets for some of our more creative friends and neighbors are not something to ignore!

I’m not suggesting that it is for everyone and right now there are risks that exist with any new frontier. If it is an interest to you, here are a few of the links that I’m checking out.

Note: As the third link highlights, not everything is as it seems so be sure that you gain some understanding of what you are doing, how purchases and sales work, and what risks exist.
