Sirus Digital Newsletter – Edition 64

What you measure gets done. What you track improves. What you celebrate, you get more of.
Metrics for a website and blog are important for their ability to highlight the returns you get from the time and resources invested. You want to identify a good cross-section of measures to evaluate your success like Traffic, Qualified Leads, and Onboarded Clients.

Celebrating The Wins

Editor’s Note: This newsletter was originally published on September 27th, 2021.

Hopefully, you’ll forgive my happiness today as I’m still enjoying a #DoubleWinWeekend! (Note: Depending upon the outcome of the Atlanta Braves final game this evening against the San Diego Padres (they currently lead 4-3 in the 6th), it could be a “Three-Fer”!)

Either way…..

UGA went to 4-0 (2-0 in SEC play) after dispatching the undermanned Vandy team. They have also undefeated Arkansas & UGA’s former OL coach Sam Pittman at the helm coming up next. Gotta #KeepChopping!

Also on a positive note, the Atlanta Falcons defeated those dastardly G-Men from New York. In a feel-good moment, former Giants QB Eli Manning got inducted into NY’s Ring of Honor at halftime.

The Falcons get the final-play FG and win; the Giants get to celebrate a former player who won 2 SBs for them in the past. Seems like a fair exchange to me. 🙂

If I had to pick and choose, I’ll take UGA continuing on their current streak with continued improvement from the Falcons. (Yes, I’m a football fan first and foremost!) I’ve been impressed with how the Braves have cobbled together a successful season after injuries to their top Pitcher & Day-to-Day Player.

Either way, we should all be thankful that we are getting to enjoy sports again and we’ve moved beyond the 2020 seasons that saw athletes playing in front of audiences of cameras and camera operators!

It’s a beautiful thing & a blessing!

What you measure gets done. What you track improves. What you celebrate, you get more of.
I shared this quote in a section of my upcoming long-form blog post. It dealt with metrics and measure your results from a Content Strategy.

If you have a website or blog and need to identify a good cross-section of measures for your success, consider these three:

  • Traffic
  • Qualified Leads
  • Onboarded Clients

Traffic

Traffic represents User Visits to your website or blog. It is usually one of the easier measures to collect and calculate, but it often tells an incomplete (or wholly inaccurate) story.

Beyond raw metrics for traffic, you need to ensure that you are getting visits from users to whom you can provide value and with whom you want to build a deeper relationship.

Don’t get too excited by large traffic numbers unless you understand can also determine if they make up an audience of your ideal viewers/listene

Qualified Leads

These usually take the form of Subscribers (or some other list of connected users) with whom you have permission to engage.

As you often know more about them than more anonymous “Visitors” to your website, you can use queries, surveys, direct emails, and contacts to find out more about them and their interests.

Don’t overlook the insights this group can provide as a middle tier between an interested audience and clients with whom you have a direct relationship.

Onboarded Clients

This group is the one with whom you hold the most committed engagement. Even if the objective of your website/content is not “sales”, these users are the ones who drive whatever monetization objective you have for our material.

More so than Subscribers, this group should be the closest connection within your target and actual audiences.

If there are questions you have about “Why you?” or “What would drive more with you?” or [Insert-Insight-Here], this group should be the first from whom you seek answers.

Ultimately, understanding what motivated them to go from Visitor to Subscriber to Client/Engagement is the lessons that you want to be learning!

Many businesses are struggling today. In addition to the challenges of marketing for prospects and customers, it has become equally difficult even to attract (and keep) employees.

For those checking out the book reviews, I reviewed E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber. You can check out my notes at this link.

Keep a lookout as I just finished One Million Followers by Brendan Kane and will be posting my notes for that one soon.

There are examples of good and bad leadership everywhere we look. This list offers a quick primer and set of considerations to initially rank. (Note: #4 – Lacking Integrity is one that suggests we’d do well to measure and evaluate ourselves before passing judgment on others!)

Beware: Another Google Chrome Zero-Day Hack
There have been a number of vulnerabilities publicized recently targeting Google Chrome. As Microsoft has well known, being a top-tier choice equally makes one a target for attackers. Check your Chrome settings and ensure that your version is 94.0.4606.61 or higher. If not, upgrade!

Check out the Paraphrasing Tools for your Content Development
Publishing good content is a requirement for blogs and websites. Along that vein, it is challenging to keep up a consistent publishing calendar without repeating your material (or, more troubling, plagiarizing material produced by others). Learning to use a Paraphrase Tool as a part of your creative process will help ease the creative pressures and help curate the wider range of ideas you share.

Google Ads & Keyword Matching
If you are a Google Ads user, it is a good idea to coordinate those efforts with your content strategy overall. Take the time to plan keywords so that each of your contact efforts is delivering a consistent & coherent brand message.
