Sirus Digital Newsletter – Edition 68

Motion begets Movement. There is no quicker way to stay where you are than to do nothing while you are there!
There is a big problem in society of large numbers of people who are unhappy in their current condition but seem to be waiting for some external force or group to change the situation. It is almost as if the association between dissatisfaction and inactivity is overlooked.

Enjoy And Cherish Your Time

Editor’s Note: This newsletter was originally published on October 25th, 2021.

We were having dinner as a family at a restaurant. The Tampa Bay / Chicago football game was playing in the background.

After the win, Tom Brady (also known as Darth Deflaticus among the good people of Atlanta – and every other AFC East team over the past few years) was being interviewed by a reporter after their win.

Brady was towering over the reporter height-wise making it difficult for the Camera operator to get a shot that included them both. The differential was noticeable!

My oldest son, a BIG sports fan who is more a “stats-geek” than even I am, noted that the reporter had to be very short compared to Brady ‘who is 6’1″‘.

I shared that I was pretty sure that he was 6’3″-6’5″ and prototypical for an NFL QB.

#ChallengeAccepted – He immediately pulled out his iPhone to see who was right. Quietly, he just shared……6’4″.

Now, for those who know me, I enjoy picking on people. One of my favorite ways is the classic “Fonzie” so “that means you were wr-wro-w-wrrro-wrong” moments or waiting expectantly for the “Yeah, you were right”. I enjoy being right, but it’s more fun than anything else when it happens that I shouldn’t have been.

He smirked and just sat silently as his Mom and I giggled waiting. It never came and that’s ok!

We were together! We were getting to share a meal with our soon-to-be Middle Schooler & our current College Student as a family. It was a good meal and this was just one moment of interactions that we are still getting to have with them both.

These moments don’t last forever! As you are getting to share them with people who are meaningful and important to you, be sure to cherish them.

In this case, he may or may not remember the meal specifically, but it is a time that will be tougher to get as time passes.

Be sure to make some for you and your family this week!

Additionally…

As I mentioned a while ago, I finished and published my new long-form content piece (Content Marketing for Bankruptcy Attorneys). If you’ve got a friend who can use it, I’d appreciate you sharing it along!

Within the sporting world, life was good in Atlanta over this past weekend. The Braves punched their ticket to the World Series on Saturday night and the Falcons followed up with a win against the Miami Dolphins. (Apologies to my buddy ScotC! Best of luck to your Fins for the remainder of the year.)

Motion begets Movement. There is no quicker way to stay where you are than to do nothing while you are there!

If you read last week’s newsletter, I pulled this quote from the discussion about the “Great Resignation”.

It is relevant in that sense, but it applies to many other areas!

There is a big problem in society of large numbers of people who are unhappy in their current condition but seem to be waiting for some external force or group to change the situation. It is almost as if the association between dissatisfaction and inactivity is overlooked.

We’ve all heard the joke that if really want something done, assign it to your busiest person!

That busiest person may not be completely satisfied, but they also don’t have the time to wallow in their dissatisfaction. In the same way that you don’t find many atheists in foxholes, you are more likely to hear complaints from those watching the work rather than those performing it!

If there are parts of your life or experience that you don’t like, take this moment to put action in motion to change it. Even if where you get to isn’t where you ultimately want to be, it is definitely not where you were before!

For those checking out the book reviews, I reviewed E-Myth Revisited (Amazon affiliate link) by Michael Gerber. You can check out my notes at this link.

Keep a lookout as I have finished reading the following books and will be posting my notes for those very soon!

Whirlpool CEO concerned of structural challenges of labor shortages
Following up on last week’s newsletter, here’s another CEO’s perspective on the challenges that we’re facing as an economy and as a culture. It is short-sighted to simply blame employees for the situation, but we are seeing some very disruptive shifts at the foundations of the stories we tell ourselves. We’ve not seen the end of this and I’d argue it’s silly for anyone to pretend they “know” how this is going to play out.

My advice – Keeping your flexibility and adaptability will likely become even more valuable as a trait (personally, professionally, and within your associations).

7 Things to Strengthen Clarity during Complexity
I am by no means a “Zen” type, but our world grows more complex by the day. In the face of that, decision-making becomes even more challenging. When things are so fluid around you, it is that much more important for you to have clarity of principle and focus.

SEO Trends coming in 2022
It’s hard to imagine that we are nearing the end of 2021. If there is anything that has evolved at a breakneck pace since early 2020, the techniques and tools for building content and attracting the attention of an audience has grown from a niche practice to an industry unto itself. As we move into 2022, that advance is only going to continue.

If you want to see some Example Technical Issues and How to fix them, you can find some in that article.

Best Open-Source Software of 2021
I’m a big fan of open-source projects and software. They are great ways to learn and provide value to users based on directives from their community of users. That model is a great one (if you can find the ancillary mechanisms to monetize or defray its costs).

Transparently, I use a number of open-source tools (so long as they’re not based on the Java runtime). Nothing says crappy performance than Java on a Windows machine (which is what I predominately use)!
