Sirus Digital Newsletter – Edition 72

Associate yourself with men of good quality, if you esteem your own reputation; for 'tis better to be alone than in bad company!
While many can seem to find little to celebrate and view reality negatively, do not count me among them! We have plenty for which to be thankful! No matter what you see and hear, we have more things in common than those that separate us!

Happy Thanksgiving 2021!

Editor’s Note: This newsletter was originally published on November 22nd, 2021.

Too often, we get wrapped up in viewing reality through the lens of “what we don’t have” or those things “that we dislike”.

In a fairly short time span, we have become hyper-focused on:

  • Rising Inflation
  • Chants of (or anger toward) memes like “Let’s Go, Brandon!”
  • Competing definitions of “murderer” and “rioter”

It is almost as if entire groups of people can find nothing worthy to celebrate and they persistently view their lives through clouds of gloom and doom.

Do not count me among them!

While I am no Pollyanna, there are plenty of things that I (and we) have to celebrate.

  1. This week marks another holiday created solely to focus our attention upon those things for which we are grateful.
  2. We are nearing the yearly celebration of a Savior’s birth commemorated by His followers to this day.
  3. After that, we will begin another New Year that will be filled with more opportunities to influence those around us and make our world a better place.

Regardless of what you hear and see, we have more things in common than separates us. It is simply our responsibility to ensure that we highlight and focus on those things in our day-to-day lives.

Yes, there will be differences and disagreements. However, we decide how that manifests in our lives.

I hope you have a week filled with smiles and fellowship!

Sports Mention from this Weekend

Charleston-Southern posed little opposition to UGA who continued their unbeaten streak in the 2021 season. Only those dastardly Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets stand in their way toward finishing a perfect 12-0 for their regular season.

Regardless, all that the Bulldogs have been doing is really just a starting point on the true objective of this season. The goal is two championships: SEC and National with a 15-0 undefeated record.

It is simply time to #KeepChopping.

On the Falcon’s front, they lost again this week on Thursday night. After being beaten over two games by a combined score of 63-3, that’s one area of disappointment in my sports world. (However, they have already matched their 2020 win today (4) so even in that disappointment, there are glimmers of a better day ahead!)

Associate yourself with men of good quality, if you esteem your own reputation; for 'tis better to be alone than in bad company!

In honor of this week’s Thanksgiving, I decided to share a quote from our first President, George Washington.

He is remembered for his dedication to Honesty and Honor.

I thought this would be good to share both on this holiday week as well as how it highlights our day-to-day practice.

As Washington notes, it truly is better to be alone than in the company of bad people.

This sentiment is shared in different ways (i.e. “You are who you hang out with”), but it is something that we should all remember.

Don’t let those around you influence who you are! Fake manifests in so many ways and none of them lead to long-term satisfaction and happiness.

For those checking out the book reviews, I reviewed E-Myth Revisited (Amazon affiliate link) by Michael Gerber. You can check out my notes at this link.

Keep a lookout as I have finished reading the following books and will be posting my notes for those very soon!
