Sirus Digital Newsletter – Edition 73

If you are truly grateful for what you have instead of being envious of what you don't have, you'll be a dominant force in business, and way more important, in life.
While I have no judgment for those who show on #BlackFriday, it is simply not for me! There is no sale or discount more valuable to me than the time that I can spend with those whom I love and appreciate.

Why I Don't Shop On #BlackFriday

Editor’s Note: This newsletter was originally published on November 29th, 2021.

There is no judgment if you do, but for me, I just enjoy spending another day relaxing and enjoying downtime with family. Thanksgiving usually follows on the heels of my birthday and I, thankfully, get some time off around the holidays to decompress.

I would simply rather spend my time with the people closest to me instead of among crowds trying to buy things for them. There is no sale or discount more valuable to me than the time I can spend with those I love and appreciate.

This past week, we hosted Thanksgiving at our house. It was great inviting them into our house as opposed to the “family travels” that had been a norm.

Our “day after” ended up being really relaxing. We even had an extra family meal together with just us and our kids at their favorite place, Golden Corral. (Note: Their favorite! LOL)

If you are starting next week having not taken the opportunity to reflect, relax, and be thankful, I definitely recommend that you take some time for it. This is a great time of the year to recharge and get ready as 2022 is right around the corner.

Enjoy this upcoming Christmas season and let me know what has you excited as we finish this year!

Sports Mention from the Weekend

UGA finished an undefeated regular season (12-0) with this Saturday’s shutout win over Georgia Tech. Alabama & the SEC Championship game are up next as we will soon find out just how high this Bulldog team can ascend. It’s been a great ride, but it is these next upcoming game (and how you perform in them) that makes the difference between “good” and “memorable” seasons.

In reality, this is where it really begins!

Following up today, the Atlanta Falcons earned a win over the Jaguars in Jacksonville. In cases like this where you are rebuilding, steps forward (even against lesser teams) are a reason to celebrate. They are simply the next steps you have to take to get better.

Next weekend will go a long way to determining the fate of both teams. Villans from each team’s past (Nick Saban/Alabama & Tom Brady) are next on the docket. Here’s to exercising both demons!

If you are truly grateful for what you have instead of being envious of what you don't have, you'll be a dominant force in business, and way more important, in life.
It is fun when you start reading a book and immediately see a quote that is both timely and direct. This was one of those situations.

When GaryVee mentioned that his new book (Twelve and a Half) was preparing for release, I tried (unsuccessfully) to pre-order my copy. Even though the online retailer I used had a problem, I went ahead and picked up a copy late last week at a brick-and-mortar store.

This quote (completely appropriate to the Thanksgiving holiday) was one of the first that I highlighted.

Structurally, Vaynerchuk lists a total of thirteen (13) traits/qualities that he considers important for leaders (and non-leaders) to develop.

  1. Gratitude
  2. Self-Awareness
  3. Accountability
  4. Optimism
  5. Empathy
  6. Kindness
  7. Tenacity
  8. Curiosity
  9. Patience
  10. Conviction
  11. Humility
  12. Ambition
  13. Kind Candor

In addition to defining and describing how each relates to our day-to-day lives, he gives examples of how they relate to each out. As evidence of his optimistic outlook, he sees the connected nature of the traits and how they work together.

I’m hoping to finish reading the book this week and will be posting a review on my website soon.

Note: If you’d like to read along and need a copy, check out #TwelveAndAHalf on Twitter. There were some offers for Gary’s audience who bought copies in bulk. You can probably get a copy from one of them for less than it would cost you on Amazon. *wink*

Shoot me an email if you read it. I’d love to hear your thoughts as well.
For those checking out the book reviews, I reviewed E-Myth Revisited (Amazon affiliate link) by Michael Gerber. You can check out my notes at this link.

Keep a lookout as I have finished reading the following books and will be posting my notes for those very soon!

How Marketers can adapt to Google’s Local SEO changes
There is a marked difference between optimizing for content overall and specifically targeting your local interest area. When focusing on local content, you have additional interests with which to blend your main topics and keywords. If your audience is locationally identifiable, be sure to keep abreast of these types of changes within the Search Engines (like Google).

As an additional note, businesses that have multiple actual locations (and wider service areas) can benefit from learning about producing content and using SEO with multiple locations. Again, don’t overlook the opportunity.

Examples of Technical SEO Issues
If you are trying to understand Technical SEO Issues, this is a good article highlighting several examples. Pick and choose a few that might impact (and hopefully improve) your website.

Everything you need to know about Click-Thru Rate (CTR)
Click-Thru Rate (CTR) is a topic that comes up in marketing circles (and when Digital Marketing Agencies are trying to sell you their services *smile*). If you are trying to improve yours (or thinking of hiring someone to help you improve it), this is a good starting point to get your foundational understanding in place.
