When Opposite Isn't Better
Editor’s Note: This newsletter was originally published on Monday, March 14th, 2022.
If there is one thing that we should be learning, it is this highlight that the Opposite often isn’t Better!
We need to look no further than our current situation (domestically and globally) to see that reality manifesting before our eyes.
I would argue that President Biden defeated President Trump more because he was “Not Trump” than any other reason. Interestingly, I suspect that if the 2020 Election had simply been the question “Do you want Donald Trump re-elected?”, the margin might have been bigger than the one that happened. Trump versus Not-Trump might have turned out bigger than Trump versus Biden.
Elections, where many voters vote against candidates (instead of for them), lead to the types of problems that we now face.
Lacking real policy or ideas as their foundation, leaders selected in this fashion struggle to put forth coherent agendas that can be enacted. Theirs becomes governance dominated by in-fighting and indecisiveness. Competing camps within their supporters perpetually fight for attention and influence.
I say this because we have real problems and this is yet another election year.
We need to be sure that we choose better instead of just something different or the opposite of what we have got!

We have heard the stereotypical “Confucius-Say” quotes for a long time.
It is interesting to come across one like this that seems as eerily appropriate today as it might have been during his time.
In our Facebook/Instagram culture, we see many people presenting themselves as something that they are not and others feigning certainty/strength they clearly do not have.
We would all do well to stay brutally honest with ourselves and ensure that we stay true to those principles we hold dear.
In our current times, a humble and patient determination needs to be in greater supply. We’ve had plenty enough of its alternatives!

Is an Orchard SEO Strategy for you?
There are a number of different “SEO strategies” that have been developed and shared. Fundamentally, most suggest ideas involving the production of content that targets keywords of interest to your intended audience/market. Unlike Ads, good content attracts organic traffic among parties interested in the same topics as you.

Keeping Employees In These Times
Regardless of your perceptions of “The Great Resignation”, it is difficult to attract and keep good talent. If you have good colleagues, you should be doing what you can to keep them. If you are looking to hire, you should be preparing for the competitive market that currently exists.
Approaching hiring or retention in the same ways that you did even 24 months ago is not going to produce the results that you or your organization seek!
While this post on our website is focused specifically on Bankruptcy Attorneys, the ideas are relevant across a number of legal (and non-legal) verticals. Be sure to check it out.
