Sirus Digital Newsletter – Edition 96

Hope isn't lost. You'll always find it right where you gave up on it.
I have reason to hope that's grounded in my relationship with my Creator, but as long as there is a tomorrow, we have the opportunity to learn, improve, and try again. Few things in life provide reasons for optimism than the knowledge that you still have more at-bats.

We Gotta Wake Up In The Morning!

Editor’s Note: This newsletter was originally published on Monday, May 16th, 2022.

I do not see how some people make it out of bed in the morning just by watching their behavior. I find it hard to believe that some of these people can control their unbridled anger. Many exist in a perpetual state of unwillingness to simply interact or engage with others.

Note: This is often a problem among people who share a worldview. Among those who disagree, it is a massive obstacle to progress.

It manifests in a number of ways.

  • Just this week in Buffalo, an 18-year-old shot as many as 13 people (11 Black and 2 White) in what was a racially-motivated attack at a community grocery store.
  • Neighborhood Facebook pages are regularly the forum that disgruntled residents vent their frustrations at Homeowners Associations (usually made of neighbors volunteering to serve).
  • Both political parties (Democrats and Republicans) are embroiled in preliminary contests readying for this November’s Election cycle where candidates allegedly within the same parties more viciously attack the Primary opponents than they likely will their General Election counterparts.

If one didn’t know better, it would seem that dissatisfaction and anger are the default human conditions right now.

I can only speak for myself.

If my candidate doesn’t get elected, it is disappointing. I rightly feel that those on the other side made the wrong decision.

Then, I get up on Wednesday because the sun comes up and there is work to be done.

If we’re having a discussion about the best way to handle some situation in our neighborhood, we’ll come to some workable agreement (or not), but then I have other things to do.

When I encounter people who are different than me or whose experiences lead them to different conclusions, we can share our worldviews and, more importantly, talk about why we hold them. It is great to hear (and share) about those things most important because they form our motivations which ultimately guide our actions.

It is past time that we start talking TO each other more instead of continuing our current pattern of talking AT each other.

…and regardless of the outcome, it’s time we focus more on getting to work changing what we can as opposed to relitigating events & outcomes that have already passed!

Who’s In?

Hope isn't lost. You'll always find it right where you gave up on it.

This quote is more a companion to the ideas above than I often share.

I am a pretty hopeful person. I have reason to hope that’s grounded in my relationship with my Creator, but as long as there is a tomorrow, we have the opportunity to learn, improve, and try again. Few things in life provide reasons for optimism than the knowledge that you still have more at-bats.

Getting to see the sunrise is a gift. It is a bright example that we are still in the game.

Just remember that we owe it to those who can no longer play to do our best while we get the privilege of taking the field.

Step up to the plate & take a swing. Life governs what happens after the swing, it’s just our responsibility to take it!

Have a great week!
