Sirus Digital Newsletter – Edition 99

Have the Courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.
There are few places where Youth get to learn & experience things that interest them safely while developing their character & becoming better leaders. Scouts BSA is one such place and I am proud to be a part of it. While Scouts BSA is not the only place where this happens, it is one.

Bringing The Heat

Editor’s Note: This newsletter was originally published on Monday, June 13th, 2022.

For those keeping up, I missed last week’s newsletter (for only the second time since its inception). Apologies, but I had a good excuse! I just got back from a week of Summer Camp with about 35 Scouts and 6 other Adult Leaders.

Usually, our Troop goes North to the mountains for Summer Camp. This year, we went to the southeast of Atlanta to Bert Adams Scout Camp.

Yes, it was pretty hot. However, our week was a little cooler than normal for the first week of June & it was pleasant (if not a little chilly) at night.

If you are nearby and your troop is looking for a Summer Camp destination, I would definitely recommend them. If you aren’t engaged with Scouts BSA, I would absolutely recommend that you get involved there as well. With the recent opening of our program to Female Youth, there are few better programs for developing character and leadership skills among our Youth.

A week of camp food and sleeping on a cot in a tent also provides better insight into how blessed we are to have things like air conditioning and good food. Little things like a good shower at home seem very different after a week of taking showers in a bathhouse.

I had a good time working with the youth, but it’s great to be #Home!

P.S. As I mentioned earlier, we are quickly approaching Edition 100 of this newsletter. I appreciate those of you who have been here from the beginning as well as those who are newly arriving. It truly means more than you know!

  • If you know someone who would benefit or might be interested in joining our journey together, be sure to forward this to them!
  • If there is something that you’d like to see (or something you’d like to see differently), shoot me an email (david_at_sirusdigital.com). I enjoy hearing feedback as I hope you get something out of it as much as I do.

This seemed like an appropriate quote that sums up my week of Summer Camp with our Troop. If there is one thing with which I left, it was Hope!

There was a bunch of Youth who had a bunch of Adults investing in them.

While someone jokingly nicknamed the ‘Gaga Ball’ Pit “Lord of the Flies”, the reality was that a large number of young people (Male and Female) from a host of different backgrounds were playing together (largely without incident). When there was conflict, it usually got worked out pretty quickly and the games continued.

When they weren’t playing together, they were participating in a myriad of Merit Badge classes focused on their individual interests.

There are few other places where Youth get to learn & experience things that interest them safely as well as develop their character & become better leaders.

While Scouts BSA is not the only place where this happens, it is one.

If you are not involved, find a place that fits for you where you can pour some of what you know into a generation following behind.

You won’t regret it!

For those checking out the book reviews, I reviewed Twelve And A Half (Amazon affiliate link) by Gary Vaynerchuk. You can check out my notes at this link.

Keep a lookout as I have finished reading the following books and will be posting my notes for those very soon!
