Sirus Digital Newsletter – Edtion 51

Spend your Time & Money on Things That Matter instead of the Stupid Stuff that doesn't!
It is frustrating to see people who profess to be Christ-followers politicizing their interactions with one another and even defaming each other based on their differing opinions. Few things are more damaging to the message we share than publicly acting in this fashion. To someone who has not heard the Gospel, why would they listen to our message when we, who proclaim it, speak of and treat each other in this fashion?

Approaching A Milestone

It has been almost a year since I started this newsletter. Next week’s edition with be the 52nd & one-year anniversary.

I would like to thank all of you for joining this journey with me.

It is interesting when I go back and see how this newsletter has changed over time. Whether looking at Edition 1 or another as it developed like Edition 20, it is interesting to see how things have evolved.

I hope you are still enjoying this weekly bit of engagement and just know that I am enjoying sharing it with you.

If you have questions or ideas for future topics, be sure to shoot me an email. If you have hints for additional ways that I can improve it, I definitely want to hear those too!

Again, Thank you!

Spend your Time & Money on Things That Matter instead of the Stupid Stuff that doesn't!

I published a post highlighting Things That Matter a little while ago.

It seems that there are more and more “Owner A” personalities who get hung up battling at the extremes losing sight of their intended objectives & goals. The quote above could almost be restated to say “Focus on Things that Lead To What You Want instead of the Stuff that Moves You Farther Away!”

Recent events during the Southern Baptist Convention are a prime example of this phenomenon.

You can read comments from incoming President Ed Litton here. Erick Erickson has posted a number of articles highlighting behavior among some Southern Baptists leading up to Litton’s election (and following it) including this one.

I grew up in a Baptist church. I’ve spent much of my life as a member of congregations that hold very basic tenets of the Christian faith:

  • God created everything – including us.
  • Our sin (aka disobedience to Him) messed that up and broke our relationship with Him.
  • He sent Jesus to lead a life as an example for us, to die for all of our sins, and to rise from the grave via the resurrection defeating Death for those of us who accept Him.
  • He is coming back one day for us and we will be with Him forever.

These are the Things that Matter and it is the message that He challenges us to deliver on His behalf until He returns.

I agree with Erick that the behavior of so many in Nashville was shameful! It was an unfortunate case of politicizing a gathering of people who profess to be Christ-followers. They acted in such a non-Christ-like fashion upsetting to God because it ultimately gives people reason to dismiss and discount the message they try to preach.

Make no mistake. Few things do more to damage our message than when we claim to be followers and behave like this.

To an unbeliever, why would they listen to our message when we, who proclaim it, treat each other in this fashion?

Had I been in Nashville, I probably would not have supported Litton.

Regardless, I hope he is the leader that they need at this time (even if he may not have been the one that many of them wanted)!

Starting an Email Newsletter w/ Zero Subscribers
I published this article a little over a year ago as I was getting ready to start my own Email Newsletter (now approaching 52 consecutive weeks). I shared some ideas that I utilized in the beginning and, if you’re looking to build and engage with an audience, feel free to get started here.

If you do, shoot me a message so I can sign up to hear what you’re sharing! I’m always looking for new ideas and everyone has something they can share.!

How to write SEO-friendly content
The folks at Screpy.com provide advice and tools to help with content generation. If you’re looking to attract & engage traffic using content, this is a great place to start.

Google delays cookie removal until late 2023
In this link, the WSJ shares Google’s decision to delay the upcoming changes to browser cookie-handling that was scheduled to go in place. A number of big marketers (specifically the giants like Amazon) have been vocal critics of the plans. While the opposition seems to have earned them a reprieve (for now), we should be adapting our business practices and marketing processes now because the future pathway is clear. If your models are predicated on pushing cookies onto your User’s browser, change is coming soon!

Google Ads / YouTube Ads creation process
It’s interesting that SocialMediaToday would be sharing creation processes for Google / YouTube ads. You’d not expect a social media-focused group to be highlighting ad creation techniques for largely search-based ad platforms.

However, I’d argue that this highlights the approaching reality where we can no longer just base our audience-building/marketing plans solely around search-based ads, or social media ads, or organic SEO content.

It is getting too expensive to base your entire strategy on paid traffic and there is simply too much noise in the market to rely solely on organic sources. A combined strategy of SEO, paid ads, and retargeting is going to be required going forward.

If you need some help setting up a multi-phase digital strategy, shoot me an email and we can chat.

So what if there are more Realtors than Real Estate (for sale)?
We’ve all heard some renditions of this story, but this YT video from CNN highlights the concern as well as any other.

Here’s a couple of thoughts:

  • The raw statistics comparing “realtors” to “available listings” may be accurate, but a comparison of active real estate professionals to the available inventory would be a more meaningful measure.
  • Some portion of the potentially available real estate is being consumed by the aggregators (Zillow, Realtor.com, etc) who are using their size & financial power to create lead-generation platforms that will eventually stifle many current real estate professionals.
  • There is still solid profit potential in real estate along the margins with homes and properties that are not sell-ready. While there may be hyper-competition among the limited supply of “easy” sales, there are numerous opportunities involving properties needing work. (In a nutshell, there’s plenty of opportunities for those willing to swing a hammer while pushing a pencil!)

For those checking out the book reviews, I reviewed E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber. You can check out my notes at this link.

Keep a lookout as I just finished One Million Followers by Brendan Kane and will be posting my notes for that one soon.
